55. Albion Train Depot
Legend of Albion Train Depot - Albion, Michigan

Albion Train Depot, or Michigan Central Railroad depot in Albion, was built in 1882, and restored in 1986 with much community fundraising.
The railroad was a prominent means of transportation prior to World War II. In
the days before private automobiles became affordable to everyday citizens, people
used to travel by train.

Albion has been fortunate to have a train that still stops here
for passengers once a day each way, and a historic railroad depot still in use. Many smaller towns lost their passenger service and depots years ago. The railroad was a major asset to our community, and helped in the faster shipment of goods, materials, and people to and from our town.

In the early days, it was an asset to have your house or business located along the route of a railroad. Since the time of restoration in 1986, the depot has housed the Albion Chamber of Commerce, an Albion Design art gallery, and Mowrer Insurance Agency.
